Telehealth services are currently available to Illinois residents.
Home Health Services are available for Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Union, and Johnson counties in Southern Illinois.
People require voice & communication therapy for a wide variety of needs, such as:
- Hoarseness & Vocal Fatigue
- Chronic Cough & Breathing Training
- Degenerative Neurological Diseases
- Accent Modification
- Gender-Affirming Voice Training
- Voice Training for Teachers & Professional Speakers
- Voice Banking and AAC Training
Many mechanisms that support voice and speech are also important for swallowing functions. Swallowing functions may be affected for several reasons and sometimes result in the need for food to be modified. At Voice and Swallowing Solutions, we believe in clients following the least restrictive diet and only make recommendations for modifications when the risk for choking and/or aspiration is high and compensatory strategies do not provide relief. It is important to keep in mind that diet restrictions can be reversed as a result of improved swallow function achieved through speech therapy.
Speech therapy for swallowing challenges often includes exercises to strengthen muscles related to swallowing, strategies to compensate for reduced strength and efficiency, and diet modification if needed.
Schedule a consultation today if you have experienced any changes to your swallowing, such as:
- Difficulty chewing
- Challenges starting a swallow
- Food feels stuck
- Water "going down the wrong pipe"
- Choking
- Extra time to finish meals
- Feeling out of breath when eating meals
Any of these symptoms may be a sign of a need for speech therapy.
